The President of the United States, Joe Biden, arrived this Thursday in Lima, Peru, to participate in the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit.
His arrival occurred at 5:41 PM local time (10:41 PM GMT) at the Callao Air Base, where he was welcomed by Peruvian Prime Minister Gustavo Adrianzén.
During his stay in the Peruvian capital, Biden is scheduled to meet with his Chinese counterpart, Xi Jinping, this coming Saturday.
This meeting will be significant as it represents the third and final encounter between the two leaders before Donald Trump assumes the presidency again. The White House has indicated that they will discuss issues of bilateral and global interest in a context marked by recent trade tensions.
Xi Jinping is already in Lima to participate in the summit and has a busy agenda that includes the inauguration of the Chancay port. This mega-project is crucial for improving trade connections between Asia and Latin America.
The APEC summit brings together 21 economies that represent more than 62% of global GDP and 48% of international trade.
In summary, Biden’s arrival in Peru marks the beginning of an intense week of negotiations and meetings among world leaders, with a particular focus on U.S.-China relations in a changing geopolitical context.
